Sunrise sets new standards with the World’s smallest Micro

New additions to NEC Electronics K-Line family feature tiny footprints

Dedicated distributor, Sunrise Electronics has just announced the World’s smallest packaging options in its K-Line range of high performance microcontrollers from NEC Electronics.

In many applications the need for saving space is a high priority, in particular those applications where electromechanical components are replaced with intelligent microcontrollers, or those applications requiring very small form factors. Sunrise Electronics now offers some of the smallest microcontroller packages available including the new 16-pin Chip Scale Package at only 1.9mm x 2.2mm, ideal for electromechanical replacement in even the smallest form factor applications. For those applications where saving space is not the highest priority, standard SSOP packages are also available.

Smallest of them all is the new 16-pin Chip Scale device. Measuring just 1.9mm x 2.2mm, this is the ideal solution where saving board space is a high priority but specification must not be compromised. Despite its size, this tiny K-Line series microcontroller is highly specified with four 10-bit fast A/D converters, 8MHz & 240KHz internal oscillators, and PWM-capable 8 & 16-bit timers. Up to 4KB of self-programmable flash memory, ‘Power-on Clear’ and ‘Low Voltage Indicator’ circuitry further reduce the need for external components.

A new brochure describing NEC Electronics’ low pin count devices and tool chain in detail is available on request from Sunrise Electronics.

About the K Series
The K Series is an extraordinarily broad line-up of microcontrollers designed for scaleability. It includes over 68 different devices in up to 5 package versions. The performance range is from around 3 to 20 MIPS, depending on whether 8- or 32-bit devices are selected. The smallest device features 1 KB Flash memory in a 1.9 x 2.2 mm² 16-ball WCSP; the biggest one offers 256 KB Flash in a 144 pin 20 x 20 mm² TQFP. Each device is supported by an on-chip debugger and in-circuit emulator. For software development, NEC Electronics offers the IAR Embedded Workbench.

About Sunrise

Sunrise Electronics is the only dedicated franchised distributor in the UK electronics market and provides a high level of technical design support to customers for the whole range of NEC semiconductor products including microprocessors, microcontrollers and ASICs as well as memory and colour LCD panels. The field sales team is technically qualified to ensure total support from design concept through to purchasing.

Sunrise is a direct ship distributor. The majority of shipments are delivered directly to customers from NEC’s own ISO9000 warehouse. This ensures reduced handling, correct packaging; especially for fine pitch surface mount devices requiring vacuum sealing, factory fresh product and timely deliveries.
