Sunrise compatible couplers cut system costs

PS8802 family from NEC offers high speed isolation

Dedicated distributor Sunrise Electronics has just announced that it is introducing two new high-speed optocouplers from NEC. Compatible with existing devices from Agilent, the new parts are suitable for both existing and new designs and may allow developers to reduce system costs.

The PS8802-1 and PS8802-2 are optically coupled isolators containing a GaAIAs LED on the light emitting side (input side) and a PIN photodiode and a high-speed amplifier transistor on the output side on one chip. The -1 is a single device, while the -2 has dual inputs and outputs, ideal for applications where space saving is at a premium.

The new PS8802-x high speed optically coupled isolators are suitable for use in computers and peripherals, for applications like serial bus isolation as well as substituting for relays and pulse transformers in general purpose inverters, power supply applications and factory automation systems.

Both these new NEC couplers offer fast response times (tPHL = 0.8μs MAX, tPLH = 1.2μs MAX ) and a minimum common mode transient immunity (CM) of 10kV/µs (min). The isolation voltage for both types is 2500 V rms. They are a direct replacement for Agilent HCPL0501 / HCPL0531 types.

These new couplers are designed to operate from a high level supply voltage (Vcc) of up to 35V. They available in a plastic S08 type package for high density applications. Samples are available on request from Sunrise Electronics.
