NEC Electronics Announces Mini Gate Arrays Offering a small number of gates in small packages at an extremely attractive unit price DUESSELDORF, Germany — 18 Feb 2005 In contrast to other manufacturers who tend to discontinue their older gate-array technologies, NEC Electronics is expanding its CMOS-N5 0.5 µm gate-array technology with new small masters. The new mini gate arrays contain a small number of gates (different masters from 1k to 5k gates) in small packages (SSOP20/30) at an extremely attractive unit price and low NRE (starting at EUR 10,000). The usual specifications for 0.5 µm process technologies for temperature (-40 to 85 °C) and power supply (3.3/5 V) ranges also apply to mini gate arrays. The new masters are especially suited for applications where algorithms have to be implemented in hardware (eg, security-critical or fast applications) or as add-on ICs for standard MCUs (eg, interface expansion, additional UARTs or timers).
