SUNRISE SETS SIGHTS ON MOTOR CONTROL WITH NEW MICRO
NEC V850 variant is optimised for motor control applications
Dedicated distributor, Sunrise Electronics has just announced a new version of NEC’s successful V850 32-bit RISC microcontroller optimised for motor control applications offering an extensive feature set of on-board peripherals as well as in circuit programmability with its on-board FLASH memory.
The single-chip V850ES/IK1 microcontroller is a member of NEC's popular 32-bit RISC family. The new device is based on the V850ES core optimized for very low power consumption and high performance. It integrates optional ROM or single voltage Flash memory, RAM, an interrupt controller, and timers such as a 3-phase sine wave PWM timer, serial interface, A/D converter, and other functions all on a single chip.
Offering powerful performance for a highly competitive cost, the enhanced 32-bit RISC CPU core of the V850ES/IK1 features a 31.25ns minimum instruction execution time using a 32 MHz max. clock. Internal memory can be 64 Kbytes ROM, 4 Kbytes RAM or 128 Kbytes Flash, 6 Kbytes RAM. The single voltage Flash technology employed enables in-application in circuit programming during production or for firmware upgrades.
The V850ES/IK1 has seven 16-bit timers in addition to watchdog and other monitors, making it ideal for inverter applications, and its dedicated motor control function supports complementary 3 phase PWM operation with a dead timer control built in for safety. It is ideal for sophisticated real time control applications and has two 4-channel A/D-converters with 10-bit resolution as well as 39 I/O lines with programmable pull-up resistors.
Communications interfaces include two industry standard UARTs with on-board baud rate generators and a 3-wire serial interface (CSI). Other features include built in clock generator with PLL, 4-point ROM correction, a low-voltage indicator and a ‘Power on’ clear function.
Designed to operate from supply voltages in the range 3.5-5.5V, the V850ES/IK1 is rated for operating temperatures from -40°C to +85°C. It is package in a 64-pin LQFP and is available now from Sunrise Electronics.

Sunrise Electronics is the only dedicated franchised distributor in the UK electronics market and provides a high level of technical design support to customers for the whole range of NEC semiconductor products including microprocessors, microcontrollers and ASICs as well as memory and colour LCD panels. The field sales team is technically qualified to ensure total support from design concept through to purchasing.
Sunrise is a direct ship distributor. The majority of shipments are delivered directly to customers from NEC’s own ISO9000 warehouse. This ensures reduced handling, correct packaging, especially for fine pitch surface mount devices requiring vacuum sealing, factory fresh product and timely deliveries.
