SUNRISE
INTRODUCES FIRST 0.15µm 8-BIT MICROCONTROLLER
New
generation NEC Electronics K Series devices just released
Dedicated NEC Electronics distributor, Sunrise Electronics has just announced a
new generation of 8-bit microcontrollers in NEC’s successful K Series
featuring up to 128KB of
single voltage Flash memory.
With
a total of 36 products, the new 78K0/Kx2 Series from NEC Electronics offers
Flash memory capacities from 8 KB to 128 KB and a choice of 30-pin to 80-pin
packages, making this new series one of the industry’s most comprehensive. The
78K0/Kx2 Series is targeted for use in a wide range of home appliances, consumer
electronics, industrial equipment, automotive systems, lighting systems and
sensors.
The
78K0/Kx2 Series employs SuperFlash® technology licensed from Silicon Storage
Technology, Inc. (SST), and is manufactured using a 0.15-micron process
technology. The 78K0/Kx2 Series offers operating speeds of up to 20 MHz and
power supply voltages from 1.8 V to 5.5 V. Operating current is reduced to 2.5
mA - less than one-third of similar mask ROM microcontrollers. Features like
these make the series ideal for industrial systems needing high performance and
for applications that require the lowest power consumption. Moreover, all these
features are available without a cost premium, as products in the 78K0/Kx2
Series have comparable prices to previous mask ROM products from NEC
manufactured in 0.35-micron process technology.
The
K Series concept was first launched in 2003 with the announcement of the 78K0/Kx1
Series, and has since been adopted very successfully by the consumer
electronics, industrial equipment and other market areas. The 78K0/Kx2 Series is
the latest step in the evolution of NEC Electronics’ K Series. All 78K0/Kx2
devices feature comprehensive PWM-capable timer blocks, 10-bit A/D converters
and reduce the need for external components by integrating POC circuitry,
brownout detection, and on-chip 8MHz & 240 kHz ring oscillators. They further
benefit from a peripheral-compatible upgrade path to NEC’s range of V850ES/Kx1+
32-bit devices and cost reduction path to NEC Electronics’ range of 78K0S/Kx1+
8-bit devices.
Sunrise
also offers design support, together with a range of cost effective tools such
as an on-chip debugger and flash programmer, that will help reduce customers’
time and cost for programming, and will enable much shorter turnaround times
compared with similar mask ROM products.
