SUNRISE SETS NEW STANDARDS FOR DAYLIGHT DISPLAYS

New 6.5inch VGA TFT from NEC uses latest Natural Light Technology

Dedicated NEC distributor, Sunrise Electronics has just announced a new colour TFT module in its extensive range of flat-panel displays which delivers VGA resolution in a compact 6.5inch format in a new technology developed for optimal daylight viewing.

The NL6448BC20-14 is a 17cm diagonal (6.5inch) LCD giving a clear, bright display in the industry standard VGA resolution of 640x480 pixels. NEC’s new NLT technology (Natural Light Technology) combines the reflective technology of a standard TFT backlight with additional transflective components. This display uses a special external transflective polariser at the back of the display, reducing cost compared with solutions generating reflection within the LCD liquid.

The NL6448BC20-14 has a wide viewing angle (50º left and right) and low reflection. It can be illuminated to a high brightness level of 400cd/m2 with its two edge type replaceable cold cathode fluorescent backlights. This module accepts 6-bit digital RGB signals plus dot clock and sync and is capable of simultaneous display of 262,144 colours. It is electrically compatible with NEC’s earlier 6.5inch modules, and those from other manufacturers, making it easy to incorporate into existing designs or projects in progress.

The high brightness level and contrast ratio of 10:1 make this display suitable for instruments and equipment used in environments with wide ranging ambient lighting conditions. Target applications are those where a wide range of different light conditions can be expected - for example medical or industrial products used both in and out of doors.
