32-bit All Flash microcontrollers from NEC Electronics aid applications development

Sunrise Electronics has just introduced over 20 new additions to its V850 series of high performance, 32-bit general purpose microcontrollers from NEC Electronics. The devices are the first V850 series microcontrollers with only embedded flash memory, designed to facilitate more efficient development of applications.

Based on NEC Electronics V850ES core which delivers up to 29MIPS at 20MHz, the new products include the V850ES/Hx2 series, which includes up to 24-channels of A/D conversion for analogue-intensive systems such as sensors, the V850ES/Jx2 series for low-voltage systems requiring complex, multi-functional and high speed operations, and the V850ES/Ix2 series, for cost-sensitive 3-phase motor control systems. General purpose microcontrollers with embedded flash memory have gained popularity in recent years over traditional mask ROM microcontrollers. Although mask ROM methods are effective for high volume manufacturing, the trend in many industries is toward producing a wide array of products with high performance requirements in smaller quantities and faster time to market, resulting in demand for greater flexibility and reprogrammability.
