Elpida Memory's PC2700 SO DIMMs Provide Maximum Density and System Performance for Notebook PCs
1-Gigabyte, 200-pin Modules Are Now Available
TOKYO, April 21, 2003 - Elpida Memory, Inc. (Elpida) today announced the availability of high-density 1 Gigabyte, 512 Megabyte and 256 Megabyte PC2700 Small-Outline Dual In-line Memory Modules (SO DIMMs). The 1 Gigabyte modules utilize sixteen 512 Megabit, 333 MHz DDR (DDR333B) SDRAM devices which are mounted on the SO DIMM using Elpida's revolutionary Tape Carrier Packaging (TCP) technology to offer customers enhanced high-density and high-speed performance necessary for notebook applications.
"Notebook applications require the advanced system performance and maximum module density made possible by Elpida's PC2700 SO DIMMs," said Jun Kitano, director of Technical Marketing for Elpida Memory (USA) Inc. "Elpida's 1GB SO DIMMs allow our customers to deliver high-density, high-speed benefits to mobile applications providing consumers with increased performance previously available only in desktop PCs."
Elpida's new PC2700 DDR SO DIMMs transfer data at a rate of 2700 Megabytes per second, and they are currently available in 1-Gigabyte, 512 Megabyte or 256 Megabyte densities (part numbers: EBD11UD8ABDA-6B, EBD52UC8AKDA-6B, and EBD26UC6AKSA-6B). The 1-Gigabyte modules are based on Elpida's 0.11 micron, 512 Megabit (x8), DDR333B SDRAMs in Elpida's proprietary Tape Carrier Package (TCP); the 512 Megabyte modules utilize Elpida's 256 Megabit (x8) 333 MHz DDR SDRAM devices, also in TCP packages; and the 256 Megabyte modules use Elpida's 256 Megabit (x16) 333 MHz DDR SDRAM devices in standard TSOP packages. The standard 200-pin SO DIMMs are 31.75mm in height with a lead pitch of 0.6 mm. The devices mounted on the SO DIMMs have a programmable burst length of 2, 4, 8 and a programmable/CAS latency (CL) of 2, 2.5. High-speed data transfers are accomplished by the 2-bit prefetch-pipelined DDR SDRAM architecture, and 2.5 voltage operation is achieved using Elpida's 0.11 micron process technology.
