Elpida Memory's DDR400 SDRAMs and DIMMs Support Intel® PC Desktop and Workstation Platforms

20% Higher Bandwidth is Achieved Using the Same DDR SDRAM Architecture and 0.13 micron Process Technology

INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM - SAN JOSE, Calif. - February 19, 2003 - Elpida Memory (Elpida), Inc. today announced the availability of its 256 Megabit DDR400 SDRAM devices and unbuffered PC3200 dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs). The new DRAM devices and modules will be 100% compliant with Intel® memory specifications for high-end PC desktop and workstation platforms.

As microprocessor performance continues to improve, it is important that the front side bus and the memory cycle be synchronized in order to achieve the maximum system performance gain. DDR400 represents a 20% performance improvement over the current DDR333 mainstream memory solution, and it uses the same basic DDR SDRAM architecture with which system designers are already familiar.

"We will see DDR400 support the highest performance Pentium® 4 processor desktop and workstation systems in 2003. We are pleased that Elpida will support our roadmap by offering Intel compliant DDR400 memory for these applications," said Pete MacWilliams, Intel Senior Fellow.

"DDR400 is a new addition to Elpida's product roadmap based on the current market need for higher bandwidth," stated Jun Kitano, director of Technical Marketing for Elpida Memory. "Originally the 400 MHz version of DDR was scheduled to be implemented in the next-generation DDR2 architecture, but because time-to-market is so important to our customers, our engineers can easily improve the current memory design while also developing future products."

Higher Bandwidth; Same DDR Features

Elpida's 256 Megabit DDR400 SDRAM devices operate at 400 MHz, and they are produced using Elpida's proven 0.13 micron process technology that enables a very small device footprint and low voltage operation (VDD=2.6 V +/- 0.1 V). The device organization is 32-million words x 8-bits x 4 banks, and they are packaged in TSOP packages. The DIMMs are available in 256 Megabyte or 512 Megabyte densities in either x64 or x72 configurations. Error Correction Code (ECC) or non-ECC versions are available depending on the system need for assurance of high-reliability.
